LEH returns to Humanities Center The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities has resumed operations at the Louisiana Humanities Center at Turners’ Hall in New Orleans. The LEH suspended operations in the wake of Hurricane Katrina but within three weeks was conducting business from temporary offices in Prairieville. Turners’ Hall sustained damage to the first floor due to flooding from Hurricane Katrina. Offices are currently being restored. Little damage occurred to the rest of the building, so the LEH staff was able to make the transition back to New Orleans in mid-October. LEH grant applicants are reminded that Nov. 15 is the Outreach Grant deadline. The Sept. 25 Documentary Film and Radio deadline and the Oct. 1 Public Humanities deadline were cancelled. LIBRARY READING PROGRAM RELIC FALL 2005 RELIC offers adult readers an opportunity to engage in diverse and intellectually challenging reading and discussion of literary and historical texts in the humanities in local libraries across the state. In acknowledgement of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the LEH has developed an abbreviated RELIC program. In the Cross Hairs of Hurricanes will be available for discussions about our experiences with hurricanes in the past and especially of the storm events of 2005. The book Isaac’s Storm: A Man, a Time, and the Deadliest Hurricane in History, by Erik Larson will serve as a common platform for informed analysis and exchange of ideas.
