Vaudechamp in New Orleans: A French Portraitist and His Contemporaries Through September 22 Williams Research Center, 410 Chartres Street Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. This exhibit showcases a selection of stunning artworks by the 19thcentury artist Jean-Joseph Vaudechamp (1790–1864) along with a selection of portraits by his contemporaries. Vaudechamp established himself as the region’s leading portrait painter when he came to New Orleans in the winter of 1831–32. This exhibition is presented in conjunction with the release of Vaudechamp in New Orleans by William Keyse Rudolph. Beautifully illustrated, the second edition in THNOC’s Louisiana Artists Biography Series sells for $25 and is available at the Williams Research Center and the Shop at The Collection, (504) 598-7147. What’s Cooking in New Orleans? Part I (October 23, 2007– January 7, 2008) explores early working decoys. Part II (January 15– April 20, 2008) examines contemporary carvings. The series is expected to begin mid-September and will feature presenters such as Judy Walker, food editor of the Times-Picayune, and Lorin Gaudin, host of WRNO-FM’s “All Over Food.” Each lecture is free and open to the public.
