Louisiana Cultural Vistas - Spring 2008 - (Page 15) left: Standing Child - Vickie, 1958, oil on canvas, 40 x 22 inches, [Private Collection] I made this painting of my first child, Victoria Anne, during the summer of 1958. She was five years old. She had been born with a ventricular septal defect and needed open heart surgery, which had just become available at Touro Infirmary. We opted for surgery in November. It was a last resort. She did not recover. Since her loss, this painting has become a family icon. below left: Errol Barron, 1993, oil on canvas, 13 x 11 inches, [Private Collection] below right: Erin 2000, 2000, oil on canvas, 12 x 8 inches, [Clifford and Jane Wright, Metairie, LA] I did this small portrait of Erin from life the summer she worked with me.I gifted it to her in appreciation for her friendship and hard work. It is now owned by her parents. Spring 2008/LOUISIANA ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES 15
