John Terrell Scott b. 1940 New Orleans, Louisiana; d. 2007 in New Orleans, Louisiana A recipient of the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation “Genius Grant” in 1992 and a professor of art at Xavier University, Scott was a sculptor of mixed media and painted kinetic metal pieces, drawing upon AfricanAmerican traditions and heritage, particularly the influence of African culture on his hometown.
