A Closer Look: The Antebellum Photographs of Jay Dearborn Edwards, 1858-1861 Through February 20, 2009 Williams Gallery, 533 Royal Street Tuesday–Saturday, 9:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m., and Sunday, 10:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. Nineteenth-century photographer Jay Dearborn Edwards (1831– 1900) made a few dozen known photographs of antebellum New Orleans within an approximately four-year span, from 1858 to 1861. At the time, the art of photography was a youthful 20 years old. Edwards chose a range of subjects as the focus for his arduously produced photographs. The exhibition, which features approximately three dozen photographs, provides alternate viewpoints from which to interpret these rare works. Cajun Document, 1974 Photographs by Charles H. The fourth collaborative exhibition between The Historic New Orleans Collection and the New Orleans Museum of Art, Prints Past & Prints Present: Limited Editions from Louisiana, opened September 13 at NOMA. The exhibition, which draws from the collections of both museums, features prints by more than 50 printmakers who visited or resided in New Orleans from the late 19th century through the present. Prints Past & Prints Present includes 60 artworks by such notable artists as George Dureau, Caroline Durieux, Morris Henry Hobbs, John McCrady, Clarence Millet, John Scott, Noel Rockmore, and Ellsworth and William Woodward.
