UPCOMING EXHIBITIONS Opening January 15, 2009 Ogden Past, Present and Future: Selections from the Permanent Collection and New Acquisitions The Ogden Museum of Southern Art is showcasing an outstanding selection from its permanent collection (with some pieces being staffs’ and docents’ favorites) as well as sharing its most recent acquisitions. Works by Douglas Bourgeois, Jeffrey Cook, Jacqueline Humphries, and Richard Wilt are joined by more recent additions to the collection, such as pieces by David Bates and Shawn Hall. The World in Color: Photographs by Jorge Otero A master of color photography, Jorge Otero printed his own Ctype color prints in an era dominated by machine printing and digital images. A native of Cuba, he immigrated to the United States as a teenager. This exhibition features Otero’s landscape photographs, including those of the Amazon River, and a oneyear study of the architecture of Charleston, South Carolina, photographed at night. His last photo series included photographs of a defunct sugar mill in Louisiana shot with a 4x5 view camera. Otero passed away in New Orleans in 2003. Jack Stewart: From Atlanta to New York – A Life Survey This exhibition takes a look at the career of this multi-talented artist. After growing up in Atlanta, Jack Stewart left home to attend Yale University, where he studied with Josef Albers and Willem De Kooning, among others. After moving to New York, he became one of the leaders in the abstract movement and was known for his stunning murals. He was also instrumental in founding New York Artist Equity, a support group for artists’ rights. Steps, Red Wall, by Jorge Otero SPECIAL EVENTS © 2009 JERRY DANTZIC ARCHIVES, All Rights Reserved Opening April 23, 2009 Jerry Dantzic: The Session Photos — Louis Armstrong and Lionel Hampton During the 1950s, renowned photographer Jerry Dantzic captured the essence of New York: the musicians, showgirls, boxers, and the habitués of Coney Island, Chinatown, Broadway and other neighborhoods. Davis’s long and p rolific career as an architect, he has been a pioneer in the fields of modern architecture and design in New Orleans and the Gulf Coast, building an international reputation while remaining rooted in the culture of his native city. This exhibition is a retrospective of his long career, featuring his papers, photographs, building models, and related archival materials. December 4 Bill Summers - A percussionist whose jazz tinged music has led to collaborations with Quincy Jones. Creede Williams - Singer-songwriter whose compositions speak to all ages. Kenny Brown - Mississippi Hill Country blues in the spirit of R.L. Burnside. Presented in collaboration with the Ponderosa Stomp Foundation.
