Performance-boosting siestas in specially
designed "sleep pods" are promoted at
Google, NASA, the Cleveland Indians-and
now on the Virginia Tech campus.
Whether you're just coming off a bike ride
on the Huckleberry Trail or preparing to dash
up Brush Mountain on Gateway Trail, you
can recharge by ducking into one of Tech's
futuristic sleep pods. Looking a bit like space installed three sleep pods on the Blacksburg
capsules, these domed recliners offer tired campus in hopes of making people more

The public sleep pods are located in
Virginia Tech's Newman Library and Squires
Student Center. The pods are equipped with
disinfectant wipes so they can be cleaned
for the next user.

The Appalachian Spring Ride 2018 is April
28 beginning and ending at Rockbridge
Vineyards in Raphine. Multiple loops from
five to 25 miles. Entry fee is $55 and includes
meal and wine tasting from 2 to 5 p.m. after
the event.

The World Hunger Bike Ride, the longest-running continuously held cycling event in
Franklin County, takes place Saturday, June
9, beginning at 8 a.m. Choose your distance-
five, 10, 25 or 50 miles through Franklin and
Floyd counties-and sign up sponsors to
benefit the World Hunger Fund.

The annual July 4 Shawsville 5K has, over
its 37 years, gained a well-deserved reputation as a great event for setting a personal
best. The flat, fast course is perfect for such,
even if the time of year can allow heat to be
a factor.

Routes begin and end at Antioch Church
of the Brethren in Rocky Mount. Rest stops
along the way.
