brought a sleek, European flair to the boutique
hotel, with design touches like a granite staircase,
wrought iron handrails, reclaimed wood flooring
and big timber support beams. The hotel even offers
fitness training sessions, cycling clinics, and guided
bike tours.

PLAY:
The 93-mile Ocoee River originates in Georgia
(where it's known as Toccoa), and as it flows into

southeastern Tennessee, the river's relative calm
transitions to thrilling Class III and IV rapids. The
Ocoee's flow is controlled by the Tennessee Valley
Authority's three hydroelectric dams, and the roller
coaster-like effects they create, especially along the
4.5-mile stretch of Middle Ocoee, make it one of
the most popular whitewater rafting destinations in
the country. The more raucous Upper Ocoee, with
Class IV rapids, even hosted the 1996 Summer
Olympics whitewater slalom events. There are a
number of outfitters located along the Ocoee,
including Nantahala Outdoor Center, near
Cleveland, Tenn., where you can also embark on a
high ropes adventure course or shoot it out in a
game of paintball. Moreover, the Tanasi Trail System
is nearby, which has more than 20 miles of hiking
and biking trails.
