Those three pieces set the tone for much of the rest of
the Bonesteels' furniture acquisitions. Paul liked the
wholly American, creative flair that he saw in MidCentury Modern. In its design, the style personified
the country's optimism and space-age shoot-for-thestars confidence.
And it's fun, Paul says, walking to the stairwell that
connects the main floor with the garage and guestroom below and his office upstairs. Upstairs is where
he goes to play guitar and get away from everyone else.
"That really doesn't happen," Wyndy says, laughing. Paul nods. "It doesn't work that well," he says,

prompting more laughter from Wyndy: "I can be in
the basement talking to Paul up here. The sound just
travels."
"It makes the open floor plan very open," Paul
says, "which when you play the electric guitar isn't
good." But up here in the office is where the boys
practice piano, which is nice because their mother
can talk to them while she's making supper. The
house has its private spaces, for sure, but it lets the
family be together, even when they're not in the same
room.
"Lots of open space. I like that it's simple," Paul
says. "I think the house works well for us."
