Ginny Neil is out in the garden.

where the wild things grow. "
Those sentiments, from the blog
of Ginny Neil (thesingingfarmwife.
blogspot.com) provide some measure of
the commitment to and understanding of the land
on the part of our new garden columnist, whose first
piece is on page 62.
Ginny is not completely new to our pages, having
contributed essays including her first - and one of my
all-time favorite articles in the magazine, - "Livestock
in my Living Room," in the January/February, 2011

She has lived on a farm in Virginia's Shenandoah
Valley with her husband Joe for nearly 25 years, and
over that time has become more and more steeped in
the practices of not just growing things, but also tending to livestock and other animals.
In fact, it is perhaps those animals that have helped
Ginny Neil shares her first "Mountain Garden" column, on page 62.
build her perspective of gentle, pervasive happiness
about the hard life that farmlife is. Here, from an essay
on her blog called "Finding your Inner Dog," about
the joys of and lessons from the three family beagles,
is just one of her perspectives on what we can learn
from dogs: "If you find something you like, allow yourself
to completely enjoy it. Roll in it if that makes you happy."
