quarter-acre lot on a steep mountain
slope lot near Harpers Ferry - they located a builder, put their dream on paper,
and brought the idea to a designer.
"When they first came to me they
had a little sketch of a floor plan showing the relationship of the various
spaces to each other," Moller says. The
couple also brought clippings from
magazines showing both an Arts and
Crafts-style home and a more rustic
timber framed structure.
"It had lots of big overhangs and exaggerated brackets and stone and the timber framing. I don't know anyone who
doesn't love that look, but it's an expensive look to achieve," Moller says. "But
we were able to compromise by having
the look of timber frame on a budget."
The dream wasn't perfect. It required
multiple revisions to fit it into the landscape, and the couple say they learned
far more about home building and
themselves than they ever anticipated
before the final touches were complete.
But with the help of Fine Line Home
Designs, builder Michael F. Taylor, and
interior designer AnnMarie Ferran with
Pure Home Collections, the couple
settled onto Mission Ridge in February 2015. For Leslie and Gregg, whose
vision was not only to own the dream
home but to truly live in it, the struggles were well worth it.
"I was going down I-95 everyday going 65 miles an hour and seeing nothing," Gregg says. Now my commute is
all beautiful back country roads. Now we
very seldom watch television anymore.
We spend a lot of time together downstairs in the kitchen or on the porch
watching the sunsets when the weather
is nice. Everything about living here has
greatly improved our quality of life."
