Peaks of Otter are wellmarked and easy to follow.
When You Go
The Hike: A moderate 3.9-mile circuit hike to the Johnson Farm and an interesting rock formation at the Blue Ridge Parkway's Peaks of Otter, milepost 85.9.
Getting There: From the west: Take I-81 Exit 162 near Buchannan , turn north-

The interior of the farm
building has been restored to
its appearance in the 1930s.
ward onto U.S. 11, drive 4.6 miles, turn right onto Va. 43, continue another 4.7
miles, bear left onto the parkway and arrive at the visitor center in an additional
5 miles. From the east: From U.S. 460, take Va. 122 exit at Bedford and turn
northward, drive .6 mile, turn right onto West Main Street, go two blocks, turn
left onto North Bridge Street, go another .3 mile and make a left onto Va. 43.
Continue 10.3 miles to where the visitor center is directly across the parkway.

I just plain enjoy what I experience
each time.

and even wonder, knowing that I may
see something I have overlooked, get to
observe an animal going about its daily
life, or learn more of the history of the
area.
