Pride in our Patriarch
A new book from the founder of Grandfather
Mountain's modern trail management
program nearly four decades ago gloriously
celebrates all things Grandfather. Following
are a few sample photos from Randy Johnson's
coffee-table-beautiful and definitive-studycomprehensive "Grandfather Mountain: The
History and Guide to an Appalachian Icon,"
published this year by UNC Press.
Back in 1997, Comet Hale-Bopp appeared to leap over the sharp
summits of Grandfather Mountain, which endures as a dark spot
despite the proliferation of lights in the region.
