"It had a lot of educational institutions, a lot of churches, theaters,

to Rural Retreat. Here, in 1997, I

as the station agent from 1919 to

is a symbol of Rural Retreat, having been the reason the town exists at all. Since the exterior restoration, several new businesses have
opened up downtown, offering
new jobs and a new life."
