In 1987, an ambulatory surgery unit with additional surgical space was completed and a replacement laboratory and a radiology department were constructed. In 1992, a tower was added which increased the licensed bed capacity to 206, including psychiatric and nursery. With more than 60 physicians on staff, the Medical Center offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient and emergency services. Specialties include family medicine, women’s health, surgical services, joint replacement, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, cardiac care, angiography, cardiac catheterizations, and occupational health. For situations where specialized treatment is necessary, Halifax Regional has affiliations with tertiary care centers, including Pitt County Memorial Hospital, WakeMed, UNC Hospitals and Duke Medical Center. Halifax Regional recently completed the installation of a Siemens 40-slice CT scanner for the Imaging Department. The Medical Center also recently completed the construction of a 3,000square-foot angiography suite for the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral artery disease. Halifax Regional will be remodeling the endioscopy suite for gastrointestinal studies. Halifax HealthLink, a service of Halifax Regional located in Becker Village Mall in Roanoke Rapids, offers education for healthcare related issues along with daily monitoring of blood pressure and, for a small fee, monthly cholesterol screenings. Halifax HealthLink+ at the same location offers an observed exercise program for a reasonable monthly price. The Halifax Regional Speakers Bureau boasts an expansive list of speakers and topics for a wide range of health care related topics. The medical center also provides the Roanoke Valley Medical Ministries Clinic (also know as the Free Clinic) as a service to the area’s adult population who suffer from chronic illnesses and have little or no insurance.
