She just did not think she would get here – until she retired. And yet, today, Connolly lives in Clarksville, where she works as a telecommuter; she’s a consultant to the Department of Defense’s Defense Supply Center in Richmond. Now, every once in a while, she’ll have to go to the Virginia capital city. But that’s no problem. “Richmond is still an easy drive if I need to get there for a meeting,” Connolly says. But, mainly, Connolly works at home near the relaxing waters of Buggs Island Lake/John H. Kerr Reservoir. Her husband, formerly an activeduty soldier with the Virginia National Guard, now trains with O’Gara SSI at Virginia International Raceway. The family’s dream to come to Clarksville began years ago while living in Powhatan County, near Richmond. The Connollys and their daughters even selected a lakeside lot to build a house. “Then we realized that remaining in the Richmond area no longer mattered,” Connolly says. So they simply packed up and began building their home at Colleen’s Cove. Along the way, ironically, Connolly also found she had better computer access in Clarksville than in the big city. “We like the small town,” Connolly says. “It’s a great place to raise a family.” It is also a place, as Connolly found, that’s natural for a newcomer to become involved in making Clarksville an even better place to live. Connolly, for example, became a big supporter of the Clarksville Economic Development Association; she’s also the past president of the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce. “I love the spirit of the community,” she says. “And the people are working hard. They’re creating a community that’s pointing toward the future.
