C O M M U N I T Y R A L L I E D S U P P O R T, COOPER’S LANDING R E T U R N S T H E FAVO R S I Cooper’s Landing Inn & Tavern is the spot for casual fine dining and a comfy bed & breakfast stay with lakeside hospitality. t’s a sunny spring day, and a wedding party has gathered on the spacious and shady lawn of the Cooper’s Landing Inn & Traveler’s Tavern. This establishment ranks among Clarksville’s finest gathering spots – an operation offering casual fine dining, catering plus a cozy bed and breakfast. Nichol Cooper, 32, runs the tavern with her husband, Les, 34, and a youthful, energetic staff. The Coopers come from Eastern Virginia. She grew up in Yorktown; Les grew up in Norfolk. They bought the inn after they got married in 2002 and decided it needed a renovation. But then, just prior to opening, the pair suffered a terrible car accident that left both in separate beds for months of recuperation. When members of the Clarksville community heard the news, however, they rallied in support and tried to help the pair get back on their feet. Today, the Coopers try to return favors by keeping their inn bent on the best. Rooms feature hot tubs and lots of cozy frills. And the restaurant menu features such fare as Coconut Encrusted Jumbo Shrimp, Asparagus Parmesan Puff, Lobster Pancakes and Homemade Puff Pastry Vegetable Tart. Outside, you’ll find an in-ground pool and a restored original smokehouse. The Coopers’ clientele find the inn when they’re traveling along the back roads looking for that special getaway to celebrate an anniversary, a birthday, a wedding – or, quite simply, the start of another weekend. “I think people can come and get away from traffic,” Cooper says.
