Lake Country Visitor & Newcomer Guide 2009 - (Page 82) 82 OFF THE BEATEN PATH ▲ Tommy Winn spent 15 years creating decorative scenes using items such as driftwood, old fish nets and resin figurines. Two years ago he started carving shapes in wood instead of using pre-cast figures, and discovered he had a knack for it. “I feel like a kid,” Winn says. “I feel like I’ve been given a gift at 50 years old, that I’ve been given a new chance at art.” Winn does everything from small local projects to epic undertakings that require heavy machinery. He is shown here carving a scene by U.S. 58 west of Clarksville. There are many historic buildings in the Lake Country area including All Saint’s Episcopal Church in Roanoke Rapids.
