Pet Q&A

ASK THE EXPERT

Q: Why choose a pet cemetery?
A: A pet cemetery provides a permanent, tranquil
resting place where one can reflect on fond memories of a beloved companion. Burying your pet in
a pet cemetery gives dignity to and honors the one
that was a constant part of your life.
Karen Bowen,
Mountain View Pet Cemetery

Q: What are some things you've learned
about dogs?
A: Dogs are like humans. They hang out in cliques
and dislike some dogs. Treats = love. A quiet dog
probably means mischief. On rainy days, mud will
be found. Will eat found food. Dog hair is a magical substance that sticks to everything you don't
want it to stick to.

Q: My dog (or cat) is stiff and sore and the
pain medicine from the vet isn't helping
enough.
A: While they may have arthritis, dogs and cats
can have restrictions and subluxations in their
skeletal system just like people do! But, they rarely
complain, so these issues persist for months or years
until they finally start showing lameness. Chiropractic and acupuncture both are non-invasive and
work great for dogs & cats!

Q: What is the single most important skill
I can teach my dog?
A: The most valuable skill you can teach your dog
is the ability to focus on you. Attention to you
is the beginning of any kind of skill acquisition.
Begin by rewarding your dog every time he looks
at you. Practice until eye contact is automatic.
Karen Gritis, Field of Dreams
540-314-3861

Q: There are so many choices of dog food,
how do I decide which is best for my dog?
A: At Nature's Emporium we take the time to get to
know you and your dog. Does your dog itch, scratch
or shed? Is your dog overweight, underweight,
diabetic or have food allergies? Once we know your
dog's health profile, we can recommend the best
choices of foods to feed your special companion.
Gina Tanner, Nature's Emporium
540-772-1980
Q: What does it mean to be a cat-friendly
veterinary practice?"
A: Veterinary clinics designated as "Cat Friendly
Practices" have proven they take extra steps
that show they are qualified to meet the unique
needs of cats. These practices have made physical
changes to their hospitals such as waiting areas for
cats only. The hospital personnel has undergone
specialized training in the handling of cats to
decrease their stress in the hospital.
