The Roanoker - January/February 2018 - VL70
A walk across the glassed-in skyway, with its views
of railway and market, leads to the historic Hotel Roanoke. Whether or not you are a guest there, you can
enjoy fine dining in the Regency Room or a more casual evening in the Pine Room Pub.
The Valley's extensive greenway system is a destination in itself. More than 30 scenic miles of trails
traverse public parks, woodland, the Roanoke River
and historic sites. The Wasena area features greenway dining destinations like The Green Goat and
Wasena City Tap Room and Grill, and activities like
River Rock climbing gym, and a circuit of outdoor
fitness equipment, set in a garden of public art.
Didn't bring your bikes? Rent them at several locations along the greenway, such as UnderDog,
Roanoke Mountain Adventures or the new Zagster rental program, then reward yourself for the
ride with a small-batch ice cream at Blue Cow.
You hardly have to get off your bike. And you've
hardly scratched the surface of the experiences
and adventures the Roanoke Valley has waiting
Back at Black Dog Salvage, visitors are taking
selfies with a member of the salvage team before
mounting a bike they've rented next door and
heading off down the greenway. n
