Community Benefit Fall Report 2007 - (Page 4) Lancaster General Community Partner ancaster General recognizes that shared leadership, diverse community participation and careful planning and research are critical components in being a knowledgeable healthcare partner. We research every endeavor before recommending the best course of action for our community, and we use every resource at our disposal—from national health goals such as Healthy People 2010 to state and local reports such as Measure Up Lancaster, Adult Behavioral Risk Survey and the annual Lancaster County Health Data Report. For the past three years, an annual review of those data resources resulted in the identification of the same three healthcare priorities for our community: • Healthy weight management • Reduction of tobacco use • Increased support for domestic violence victims. Working as a True L With unwavering focus, we continue to create new programs, foster meaningful partnerships and align our services to meet Lancaster County’s most pressing health needs. In this report, you will read examples of our commitment to community partnerships and to ensuring that anyone can access our healthcare services, irrespective of his or her ability to pay. We are proud to be participating in Project Access Lancaster County (PALCO), a new communitywide partnership that brings together a large number of providers— physicians, pharmacists, hospitals, the Lancaster County Medical Society, local healthcare workers, local non-profit agencies and the national Project Access network—to provide free medical care for low-income, uninsured patients. We take a strategic, data-driven approach for all of our community benefit initiatives that first identifies potential service gaps and then establishes meaningful, collaborative relationships with service partners to address those needs. A prime example of a strategic partnership is one established this summer to support a new cell and molecular biology teaching laboratory at Franklin & Marshall College. Lancaster General donated $500,000 as part of a five-year partnership with the college and The Clinic for Special Children in Strasburg, a primary beneficiary of the college’s genetic research program. The partnership will greatly enhance F&M’s science program, will sustain the clinic’s work and will enable Lancaster General to remain current on advancements in the area of genetic research. 4 http://www.healthypeople.gov/ http://www.lancastergeneral.org/content/MeasureUp_Lancaster_Report.htm http://www.lancastergeneral.org/content/GSv7n2_03.htm http://www.lancastergeneral.org/content/BRFSS.htm http://www.lancastergeneral.org/content/Lancaster_Health_Data_Report_2006.htm http://www.countymedicalsociety.org/ http://www.countymedicalsociety.org/ http://www.project-access.org/ http://www.project-access.org/ http://www.fandm.edu http://www.clinicforspecialchildren.org/Welcome.html
