Community Benefit Fall Report 2007 - (Page 5) Community Benefit Report ‘Community Benefit’ defined Lancaster General employees also are a key part of our community partnerships. We are proud that many of our employees, who spend their workday caring for patients, also donate thousands of personal hours to community organizations. Numerous Lancaster General employees are active with the United Way of Lancaster County, and in early September, 120 of them volunteered at the agency’s 15th annual Day of Caring. As we strive to advance the health and well-being of the communities of Lancaster, it is our sincere hope that our partnerships will continue to grow. “Community benefit” is a term used by non-profit healthcare organizations such as Lancaster General to define the scope of programs and activities that provide treatment and/or promote health and healing as a response to identified community needs. Lancaster General adheres to the community benefit definition and guidelines published in the nationally recognized “Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit.” The guide was produced by the Catholic Health Association of the United States, the nation’s largest group of non-profit healthcare sponsors, systems and facilities, and VHA, a nationwide network of communityowned healthcare systems and their physicians. The guide provides a standard by which community benefit is identified and measured and is the criterion that is most widely accepted by federal and state governments, elected officials and healthcare providers. According to the guide, a program is considered a community benefit activity if it meets one of the following: • It generates a low or negative margin. • It responds to needs of special populations, such as persons living in poverty and other disenfranchised persons. • It supplies services or programs that would likely be discontinued— or would need to be provided by another not-for-profit or government provider—if the decision were made on a purely financial basis. • It responds to public health needs. • It involves education or research that improves overall community health. More about the “Guide for Planning and Reporting Community Benefit” can be found on the Internet at www.chausa.org, keyword: “community benefit report.” Community partners list Access to Care American Red Cross Community Life Network Hospital & Healthsystem Association of PA Lancaster County Medical Society Lancaster County Office of Aging Lancaster Heart & Stroke Foundation March of Dimes Pennsylvania Chapter Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare St. Joseph Health Ministries SouthEast Lancaster Health Services United Way of Lancaster County Water Street Rescue Mission Welsh Mountain Medical Center Healthy Weight Management American Diabetes Association American Heart Association Arthritis Foundation Coalition for Smart Growth Columbia Boys Athletic Association Lancaster County Parks and Recreation Commission Lancaster Family YMCA Lititz Community Center Milagro House North Museum of Natural History & Science Puerto Rican Committee of Lancaster Schreiber Pediatrics United Disability Services YWCA Reduction of Tobacco Use American Cancer Society American Lung Association Columbia School District Council on Drug & Alcohol Abuse Donegal School District Eastern Lancaster County School District Grandview Heights Academy Hempfield School District Lancaster Country Day School Manheim Christian Day School Mount Joy Career & Technology Center Our Lady of the Angels School Our Mother of Perpetual Help School Penn Manor School District Rohrerstown IU-13 Sacred Heart School Saint Leo the Great School School District of Lancaster Solanco School District Tobacco-Free Coalition of Lancaster County Warwick School District Increased Support for Domestic Violence Victims Domestic Violence Services of Lancaster County Lancaster Coalition Against Family Violence Lancaster County Children & Youth Agency Lancaster County District Attorney’s Office Lancaster County Office of Mental Health/Mental Retardation/Early Intervention Samaritan Counseling Center YWCA of Lancaster YWCA Sexual Assault Prevention & Counseling Center 5 http://www.uwlanc.org/ http://www.chausa.org/Pub/MainNav/ourcommitments/CommunityBenefits/ http://www.chausa.org/Pub/MainNav/ourcommitments/CommunityBenefits/ http://www.chausa.org/Pub/MainNav/ourcommitments/CommunityBenefits/ http://www.lancaster.k12.pa.us/ http://www.lancasterrelayforlife.org/index.htm http://www.redcross.org/ http://www.solanco.k12.pa.us/ http://www.chausa.org/ https://www.diabetes.org/home.jsp http://www.lungusa.org/ http://www.tobaccofreelancaster.org/ http://www.chausa.org/ http://www.americanheart.org/ http://www.columbia.k12.pa.us/districtmain.htm http://www.haponline.org/ http://www.chausa.org/ http://www.warwick.k12.pa.us/ http://www.dahelp.org/index.html http://www.arthritis.org/ http://www.countymedicalsociety.org/ http://www.donegal.k12.pa.us/donegal/site/default.asp http://www.coalitionforsmartgrowth.org/index.html http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/lanco_aging/site/default.asp http://members.tripod.com/~tsegro/baseball/baseball.htm http://www.elanco.k12.pa.us/ http://www.caplanc.org/Programs/DVS/dvslancastercounty.htm http://www.lancasterheartfoundation.org/Index.html http://www.ghcapa.com/ http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/parks/site/default.asp http://www.pcadv.org/ http://www.hempfieldsd.org/hempfield/site/default.asp http://www.marchofdimes.com/pennsylvania/ http://www.lancasterymca.org/ http://www.lcds.pvt.k12.pa.us/home/index.asp http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/lanco/cwp/view.asp?a=501&q=515952&lancoNav=| http://www.lititzcommunitycenter.org/ http://www.manheimchristian.org/ http://www.dpw.state.pa.us/ http://www.milagrohouse.org/ http://www.lcctc.org/ http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/lanco/cwp/view.asp?a=464&Q=262153&lancoNav=|5720|6220| http://www.northmuseum.org/ http://www.sjhm.org/ http://www.ourladyoftheangels.org/ http://www.co.lancaster.pa.us/lanco/cwp/view.asp?a=1&q=522756 http://www.prclancasterpa.org/ http://www.omph.org/ http://selhs.org/ http://www.uwlanc.org/ http://www.schreiberpediatric.org/ http://www.chausa.org http://www.pmsd.k12.pa.us/ http://www.scclanc.org/ http://www.wsrm.org/ http://www.udservices.org/ http://www.iu13.k12.pa.us/index.htm http://www.welshmountain.com/ http://www.ymcalancaster.org/ http://www.sacredheartschoollancaster.com/ http://www.ywca.org/site/pp.asp?c=esJSK3PFJpH&b=440549 http://www.stleoschool.org/
