They also write, shoot photos and chat there too—using the Spin Magazine website as an online gathering place. Spin Interactive Director Peter Gaston says the kick-start to Spin’s online presence came when the magazine created a digital edition of the print publication, putting the whole magazine online for free. More people were being drawn to the magazine and thus, its website. “Our readership is pretty much living in online space,” Gaston says. And, of course, Spin wanted them to spend much of that online life at spin.com. Thus, it created a site where fans can be the content providers. Through a simple registration process, a person can create a profile on Spin—posting a photo, sharing their favorite music, recommending albums, etc. Every few days, one of those “Spinsiders” is featured at spin.com’s community section.
