LiNKED Spring 2008 - (Page 14) 14 | RICH MEDIA “SUBSTANCE IS STILL PARAMOUNT” In the animated video, Slate V plays upon Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia’s public comments about the “24” character, Jack Bauer. The 3-minute, 25-second segment follows Scalia one hour before the start of the new Supreme Court session last October. Scalia, as a Bauer-like character, challenges Justice Anthony Kennedy before answering the call from President Bush to save Dick Cheney who has been kidnapped by birds upset with the vice president’s hunting expeditions. Scalia comes to the rescue, shoots down the birds and saves Cheney much to the appreciation of the president. Slate V posts daily and strives for at least one original piece each week, Smee says. He explains that people have so many online video choices, particularly with the onslaught available at YouTube, that Slate V wanted to start by shining its light on one feature a day. Earlier this year, Slate V staff realized the similarities between the campaign of Reese Witherspoon’s character in the movie “Election” and that of Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. The resulting, “Hillary’s PULL QUOTE IL ET LOR SIT NULLAMET LAM QUISL DOLENIAMET ING ERCIP ERAESSI ADIONUM QUAT EU FACCUM NULLAORE. Inner Tracy Flick,” video blends clips from Flick’s monologue in the movie with Clinton’s comments on the campaign trail. “Don’t you just hate it when some upstart comes along and threatens your best laid plans,” the video’s introduction reads. Smee and Andy Bowers served as executive producers on both videos. But they and other Slate V staff are not limited to politics—arts and life, business as well as pieces from Slate magazine all are topics covered. The popular Dr. Prudence advice column gets a unique spin with the advice-giver sharing her insight while specially created flash animation depicts her witty guidance with a large dose of its own humor. Smee says Slate V has two full-time editors on staff and relies on freelancers in video literature to assist in the production. It takes about two to three days to produce a short video. While Slate V strives to plan ahead, it also is able to turn on a dime when news of the day offers the perfect opportunity for an original video. http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/ http://www.slatev.com/
