LiNKED Spring 2008 - (Page 19) 19 new digital publishing venture was on the right track. English explains that one of the main lessons learned in the process was to treat Prospects’ digital products as individual products, not just “magazines on the Web.” “Not everything that works in print can be successfully translated to digital editions,” she says. “We still strive to offer clients who are new to the medium a consultative approach to ensure they will get the best out of their advertisements and fully understand what will and what will not work.” The digital Prospects Today also opens up the avenues for readers to interact instantaneously with the magazine. Take its “Ask the Employers” column. Readers can submit questions simply by clicking on an e-mail link at the end of the column. They also can cast their vote on the question of the week such as “Are you comfortable about sitting personality tests for job selection” or “Are you concerned about a quarter-life crisis.” Results are given in the next week’s issue. English says Prospects hasn’t stopped advancing since introducing the digital products. “We are now looking to tackle video advertising and this will present us with another learning curve, as will our current redesign of our editorial pages to make them more reader friendly,” she explains. Ultimately, developing a digital product is no different than developing a print product or new Web property, English says. “You need to understand the needs of the audience, meet the expectations of your advertiser base and be prepared to learn from the process, reacting with product development as required.” WWW.LINKED-MAGAZINE.COM http://WWW.LINKED-MAGAZINE.COM
