Lancaster Road Runners Club - March/April 2008 - (Page 3) What Team Are You On? I have found a new enthusiasm for long runs since my return to trail running. One night late last December found me with enough confidence to give the HAT 50k another chance. I sent the check in before the confidence left me. I later checked the site and found myself in. John was a little late in sending his check in. He’s on the waiting list. Now comes the fun - training for it. Seems as though we have a few teams in the mix. I don’t have the time to hit the road with either Team Fun, or Team Hardcore, so I formed Team Runs Slow with Pooch. The name says it all. We run slowly, and are accompanied by a pooch! It consists of me, John Markley, and Annie, an energetic chocolate lab. She runs it knowing that she’ll have at least one chance to swim in the County Park creek. We were joined on one outing by Karen Sandt, whom I struggled furiously to keep up with. It was my first loop of Smiths’ course, her second. That’s where our team trains. Good old County Park trails. Close by, practically impossible to get lost on, and perfect for multi-loop runs as there are plenty of water stops along the course, and you can keep trail food and dry clothing in the car. We plan an easy part two afterwards, either at home, or at a restaurant close by. All are welcome. We run it slowly every week. I’d like to thank everyone who help with this issue of our newsletter. Thanks to Sil who collected the articles and wrote several himself. Thanks to Aimee for sending some really great photos. To Karen for the shots she and Miles post almost weekly, to Harry for sharing his images. There were others whose photos I used but could not identify the shooter since they were posted and sent via our Yahoo Group email and the sender didn’t include their name. Thanks -- you know who you are! You’ll notice the new newsletter layout gives us more room to include your stories and articles. We’ve added more photos too. So please, don’t be stingy or shy. We will make room to publish any story you send us. We’ll pull photos members post to the group web site or any you send our way. Photos with captions can also be sent to Jim Castanzo at jcastanzo@mac. com. There are also a few additions. On page 7 you’ll see a new regular feature: RUNNER’S PROFILE. This issue features Marcus Grimm. In future issues we’ll be adding other regular features: TRAINER’S CORNER where members can submit ideas and suggestions on race preparations, proven recovery techniques, and recipes specially created for the runner. The purpose of the newsletter is to showcase our members and the fun they have participating in our sport, to disseminate information and encourage members to be more active in club activities. If you have any suggestions on other topics you would like us to include, pass your ideas onto Sil or Jim C. In the meantime, enjoy this issue.
