The more traditional method of pay-as-you-go funding would require the gas tax to be collected before work could progress. The bond revenues provide funding so that projects can proceed sooner. The TIMED tax provides the revenue to complete the TIMED Projects and repay the bonds. Additional bond sales are scheduled in future years to maintain the accelerated Program. The total projected cost of the Louisiana TIMED Program is $4.6 billion.
