Bowlers Journal International - February 2008 - (Page 22) SNAPSHOT TODD BOOK Birth Date & Place: Oct. 20, 1971, in Lima, Ohio — but raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio, home of Neil Armstrong. Nickname: "Book 'Em." Personal Hero: My father. If I could be a quarter of the man he was, that would be fine with me. His word was his word, and he lived by it. Favorite Movie: "Cars." I can't help it; it makes me smile. Favorite TV Show: "Boston Legal." Favorite Music/Musicians: Country, easy listening, jazz and Josh Groban. Worst Job I Ever Had: Dishwasher at Ponderosa. What I First Loved About Bowling: My mother's armswing — truly awesome. Bowling Moment I'll Never Forget: During a World Team Challenge telecast when Earl Anthony said, 'Look at the intensity in the eyes of this young man. He is ready. Todd Book isn't even going to blink.' One of the greatest bowlers of all-time saw something in me that I never realized. Best Part of Bowling on Tour: The Pro-Ams. I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my time with those who are truly interested in our lives. Ultimate Goal in Bowling: Figure out a way to get more money in the sport. We are among the lowest paid professional athletes. And, of course, to win some PBA titles. Advice I'd Give to Aspiring Bowlers: Be honest with yourself. If you get tapped, try to understand why the pins didn't fall instead of complaining about the lanes. After I Retire From Bowling, I'd Like to Be Remembered As: A competitor on the lanes, and a true gentleman off them. I don't think there's enough of that. What I Least Understand About Bowling Today: Why the majority of people want easy lane conditions. That's why we don't get much respect as professionals. When we struggle on TV, everyone thinks they can beat us. When Tiger Wood shoots in the high 70s in a major, there isn't a single club pro who thinks he can beat him. Scientists Should Invent: A lane oil that would show people how badly they're actually missing their targets. I'd Like to Own: A huge house out in the country, maybe with some horses.
