Bowlers Journal International - February 2008 - (Page 34) TOURNAMENTS ■ Mini-Eliminator Amateur Only Classic (February 5-10 at Texas Station) — In the two age divisions, no PBA members, and no former PBA, PWBA or GBT champions are allowed. In the 210-and-under division, a bowler may not have averaged 211 or higher in any league or tournament organization over the last three years, and may never have been a PBA, PWBA or GBT member. ■ TAT Amateur Nationals (February 1-8 at The Orleans) — Bowlers may not have been a PBA member within the last three years, or a touring PBA or PWBA player for the last 10 years. Also, winners of $10,000 or more in TAT events within the last three years are ineligible, as are bowlers who have won $10,000 or more in other tournaments within the past seven years. The Mini-Eliminator is taking it one step further by becoming a pseudohandicap event. It will now award "bonus pins" to certain bowlers not cashing or qualifying for the finals on their first entry. Former or current pros, national team members, bowling ball staff members or winners of $10,000 or more in a tournament are not eligible for the bonus pins. Further information is available on the VirtualTournaments.com website. THE MONEY IS REAL VirtualTournaments.com has topped the $1 million plateau in prize money paid out. Nearly a third of that total was awarded in 2007 alone, as the organization linked up bowlers' league scores for a series of weekly national tournaments. During the fall and winter months, weekly prize funds approached $10,000 as bowlers competed in handicap singles, scratch singles, handicap doubles, brackets, sidepots and "eliminator" events. "All cash winnings are manually verified with the bowling centers and/or league secretaries to ensure the integrity of the Virtual Tournaments," said organizer Scott Scriver. Two of the big winners thus far in VirtualTournaments.com action are Brad Cottom of Dilon, Mont., with $22,587, and Richard Gabovitz of Middletown, Md., with $20,970. 34 bowlers journal international FEBRUARY 2008 http://VirtualTournaments.com http://VirtualTournaments.com http://VirtualTournaments.com http://www.bowlingball.com http://www.bowlingball.com http://www.bowlingball.com/affiliate.html http://www.bowlingball.com/affiliate.html http://www.bowlingball.com http://www.bowlingball.com/proshop.php
