Bowlers Journal International - November 2008 - (Page 33) Inside Line News, Notes And Perspective Nichols and Lisa (Rathgeber) Wagner, who are tied for third with nine appearances, and Carolyn DorinBallard and Betty Morris, who shared fifth place with eight elite squad selections. That means there were six women sharing the All-Time All-American First Team designation instead of five. So be it. Balancing out this linear aberration perfectly is a five-way tie for the No. 6 spot, a distinction shared by those with seven appearances each. The second team — if it can really be said that these All-Time All-Americans should be relegated to a consolation berth — includes Donna Adamek, “California Pat” Costello (a euphemism used to distinguish the righty from her unrelated namesake), Patty Costello, Tish Johnson and Millie (Ignizio) Martorella, the last three all left-handers. There also is a Second Team for their male counterparts. It is populated by Chris Barnes, Parker Bohn III and Marshall Holman, who are tied for sixth with nine appearances. Rounding out the Numero Duo squad are Norm Duke and Joe Norris, who share another tie, this one earned with eight selections apiece. The question of “Who’s the Greatest?” is a common subject among sports fans at many watering holes. This latest designation may indelibly cement a few “new” names into the mix, especially for old-timers. Not that Williams is a “new” name, necessarily. It’s just that the WRW moniker increasingly has been proposed as the newest answer to the above question ever since he definitively passed Earl Anthony in career PBA victories last year. It’s just that this latest honor should succeed in giving his supporters some additional fuel for their arguments, since it has more long-term implications, as if they needed them. The women’s side of the equation is a slightly different story. There, the participants have been laboring under an already lowered profile, especially with the passing of the Women’s Tour in 2003. Despite that, there is no question that Wendy Macpherson has been a formidable talent over the years, but this latest AllAmerican honor simply sheds new light on the true dimension of her stardom. It also may help answer the obvious question stated above in relation to the best of her gender.
