Active grille shutter 2011-13 Chevy Cruze Eco: Active Grille Shutter 2013 Cadillac ATS: Aero Shutter At the bottom of the front bumper, behind the front spoiler air inlet, there is a set of louvers that closes to reduce aerodynamic drag. When vehicle speed is greater than 25 mph, ambient temperature is greater than 36˚ F and the engine cooling fan is OFF, the control unit will command the grille shutter 5% to 95% closed, depending on coolant temperature, A/C refrigerant system pressure and other engine operating parameters. The actuator is a 12-volt motor mounted on the left side of the assembly. Power is supplied by the main ignition relay through a 7.5-amp fuse in the underhood fuse block. There's a permanent ground circuit, and the pulsewidth-modulated control signal comes from the fuel pump control module. Trouble code P069E indicates the Fuel Pump Control Module has requested MIL illumination. Code P059F indicates a malfunction in the Active Grille Air Shutter (Chevrolet) or Aero Shutter (Cadillac), and it's a two-trip code. If ambient temperature is above 50˚ F when the ignition switch is first turned ON, the control unit will make three attempts to operate the shutters. If the shutters don't operate as commanded, a pending code will set. If the shutters fail to operate properly on two consecutive key cycles (trips), the MIL will be illuminated and both codes will be reported. Shutter operation can be commanded with a scan tool, and there should be voltage between terminals 1 and 3 (power and ground) of the connector with the ignition switch ON. DTC U0284 indicates no communication on the control circuit.
