Saving time while on-the-go W By Angie Kilbourne, AAM ith more than 147 million people in the U.S. owning smartphones today - that's a mobile market share of 62 percent - it's time to put away the games and selﬁes and get down to business. We've looked at the state of mobile apps recently, and found some interesting items that can put your smartphone (or tablet) to work, earning its keep. Business card organization How many business cards do you have lying around that you haven't entered into your contacts list? CamCard, an app available for iPhone, Android, Windows, Blackberry, plus iPad and Windows 8, uses Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software to scan the picture you take of a card and then ﬁle it into your contact list. It can also capture QR codes. Most users caution to double-check the accuracy, especially on those fancy business cards, but you can group these contacts and even leave notes. The free version contains ads, but you can purchase an ad-free version if you really like it. Tracking business expenses XpenseTracker for iPhone and Cashbook for Android are two apps that feature a GPS mileage tracker that will automatically calculate your total trip. They also feature exporting functions that allow you to create a .csv ﬁle for use in Excel or Google Drive. XpenseTracker can export to a PDF if needed; Cashbook also exports to QIF for Quicken. Both must be purchased, as there are no free versions. Virtual meetings on the go Cisco's Webex is an extremely popular platform for virtual meetings, and you can take your virtual presence on the road with its free mobile app for iOS, Android, Windows and Blackberry devices. You can host or attend meetings, and share your documents with attendees. The app even lets you zoom in with your device. Scan documents Until recently, scanning documents with a mobile device was pretty much limited to taking a picture.
