Facebook switches page management and posting options: F Angie Kilbourne What you need to know acebook recently made some changes to the login process for people who administer a business-related Facebook Page. Now, users remain logged in under their personal profiles; people cannot log in as a "business." "In the past, when you went to your Facebook profile to switch to your Business Page account, you'd just go to the top right drop-down menu, switch to your Page and you'd be logged in as that Page, instead of your personal profile," says Andrew Hutchinson...Hutchinson is a spokesman for Social Media Today (SMT), an online community for professionals in industries such as marketing, social, communications and digital strategy. "Facebook recently rolled out changes that now keep you logged in under your personal profile." "Facebook is also looking to address the confusion some users have when switching between accounts and posting as different [entities] by adding an extra step to commenting," he added. "It will force users to be more aware of which account they're posting as and help avoid such instances." Like the changes or not, this is how the system works now. Page owners will just have to deal with it. It may seem frustrating at first, but the new steps are relatively simple to access and the process will likely become habit sooner than users think. Access is different Page administrators haven't lost access to any functionality as a result of the change, but the process is different. Because it isn't obvious where and how you access all the regular functions, here's a brief rundown of what is affected: ● To view the Page news feed - This option is on the business Page's function panel on the left. In the news feed, users also can view a listing of all the other Pages the business has liked. ● To like other Pages - If you want your business to "like" other businesses' Pages, visit the business's Page and click the three dots at the bottom right of the header image. A menu will provide the option to "Like the Page" as any of the Pages you administer. ● To comment on or like content as Page - To do this, you simply select the drop-down menu attached to the profile image on any post and choose which Page you'd like to post a comment. ● To access Facebook's IQ Insights Blog - Insights' Hot Topics page provides additional context and oversight that can help you create content around topics that resonate throughout your target audience, displayed by age. Pushing more people to like more Pages under their personal profiles addresses this decline. 14 ACTION * July/August 2016 Liking a Business Page as a business Users remain logged in as a person, as shown in the upper right corner. But by clicking on the three dots below the Page's banner, you get an entire menu of options, including the ability to like the page as a business Page you administer. ❆ STAT: Overall Facebook sharing fell 5.5 percent between mid2014 and mid-2015; in particular, sharing of personal posts - i.e. people's own thoughts, photos, comments and likes - falling 21 percent during that period."
