The MVAC tool and equipment sector featured two diverse new products (left to right):
* The new Robinair 34988NI Premium RRR Machine (left) combines ease of use and superior accuracy. It recovers, recycles, evacuates, leak tests and quickly, accurately and automatically recharges R-134a vehicle systems..
* Globus Sistemas Eletrônicos' Next is a modern electronic controller for automotive automation. Featuring wireless connectivity or
CAN Bus and USB interfaces, it lets technicians control HVAC and many other functions.
General Service Issues
* The new AHRI Guideline M proposes that unique
cylinder and service ports fittings for flammable refrigerants used in MVAC systems be marked with the
letter "M" before use. - "AHRI has been told the
MVAC sector does not support use of unique service
ports and cylinder fitting for R-1234yf or other flammable refrigerants. Stay tuned."
* The new AHRI Guideline N would require all refrigerant containers to be painted the same color by
2020. - "The SAE Fluids and OEM committees do
not see the need to change current SAE Standards or
EPA color requirements for automotive use. In addition, the guideline would necessitate a change in both
the law and SAE standards."
* Market prices for R-134a have risen, counterfeiting remains an issue - "The Federal government recently increased tariffs on Chinese R -134a refrigerant
coming into the U.S. to 232%, which impacted market prices. Although SAE J2099 requires marking on
box and container that contents meet the SAE specification, some refrigerant marked R-134a actually may
contain other unknown substance. That's why the use

of refrigerant identifiers is very important to determine the contents of both the cylinder and A/C system
you are about to work on."
* Fleet buyers (e.g. school buses) with specialty A/C
systems have to deal with old, and sometimes archaic
standards developed by the International Mobile Air
Conditioning Association (IMACA) - "IMACA is
no longer active. It ceased to exist in 2005 when its
functions were assumed by MACS. There are over
50 IMACA documents covering the MVAC industry, and MACS has proposed that MACS and/or SAE
representatives review these documents, determine
which are of value and still comply with regulatory
mandates and requirements, and consider what SAE
standards can integrate relevant IMACA material. In
addition, MACS has suggested a new HD and Specialty Vehicles A/C Systems Committee be formed,
as part of the SAE Interior Climate Control Standards
Committee."
* EPA AC17 compliant technologies are negatively
impacting service - "These are technologies that automakers have received credits for that can be used
to offset EPA Light-Duty Vehicle Corporate Average
