Even though the Colorado River waters are calm along the state’s western border, the activities needn’t be.

Black Canyon, a stretch of Lake Mohave that begins near Bullhead City just below Hoover Dam, has dramatic walls that rise more than 1,000 feet from the canyon floor and many small side canyons from which hot springs flow. Lake Havasu is considered the world’s personalwatercraft capital. The action on the Parker Strip, home to the American Power Boat Association’s annual race, is often wet ’n’ wild. For a more relaxed time on the water, head to Alamo Lake State Park. The lake, on the Bill Williams River northeast of Quartzsite, is one of the state’s best fishing holes.
