Snowmelt permitting, the Salt River Canyon north of GlobeMiami is a hub for whitewater rafters. Oak Creek, near Sedona, offers aquatic activities of a gentler sort, including trout fishing and cavorting in Slide Rock State Park’s natural playground. Kayaking and tubing enthusiasts bob along the Verde River. Of the area’s many lakes, Lynx Lake near Prescott, and Roosevelt Lake—the largest of six created by Theodore Roosevelt Dam, the world’s highest masonry dam—are especially popular for fishing and boating.
