and biking trails for outdoor enthusiasts.

Three scenic drives along Pioneer
Parkway-officially State Route 89A-take
you through small towns and conifer forests
to the red rocks of the Verde Valley.
Starting at the massive boulders of
Granite Dells, which attract rock-climbers,
the Mingus Mountain Scenic Road winds
through the canyon between Hickey and
Mingus mountains before rising into highcountry forest to the ghost town-turnedartist colony of Jerome.
The Jerome-Clarkdale-Cottonwood
Historic Road leads right up 5,200-foot
Cleopatra Hill on which Jerome sits, then
descends to Clarkdale and the Verde River,
home of the Verde Canyon Railroad.
Towering red-rock formations, windy
Oak Creek and pine-fir forests mark the
Sedona-Oak Creek Canyon Scenic Road
that runs from Sedona to Highway 17 south
of Flagstaff.
