January, February and March; you pick the
veggies, then lunch on the meal a chef prepares using your harvest. At Yuma's Silvas
Farms, you can pick tangelos in January (as
well as blackberries in May). Yuma's March
Lettuce Days Festival features local chefs
in cook-offs and demonstrations.
For more foodie fun, keep cool with
a freshly made date shake at date-grove
stops in Yuma and, naturally, Dateland.
You can get year-round tastes of awardwinning rums and vodka, plus tours of the
Desert Diamond Distillery in Kingman.
Stetson Winery, also in Kingman, offers

tastings of its wines made from grapes harvested from the
adjacent vineyard, the only one in northwestern Arizona.
Plenty of community events go on during the cool
months of winter. Some of the biggest are the January
and February gem and mineral shows that take up acres
of outdoor markets in Quartzsite. And, hundreds come
to Parker in January (and again in October) to watch offroad racers navigate grueling desert trails full of boulders
in Best in the Desert competitions.

year-round, and the BlueWater Resort & Casino in Parker
keeps guests splashing with its two-story indoor water
slide.

Mead and Havasu created by dams along the watercourse
are open all year for houseboating, fishing, waterskiing,
swimming, wakeboarding and riding on motorized and
