The Libby’s canning factory makes that happen, while the locals throw two great pumpkin festivals every fall, including Punkin’ Chuckin’ in October. CULTURAL ATTRACTIONS Essley Noble Museum, Aledo 1406 S.E. 2nd Ave. More than 15,000 items dating from 1835 are on display, as well as a one-room schoolhouse and an agricultural shed. Park St. Thousands of artifacts are used to tell the history of Henry County. Garments, tools, gadgets and furnishings of the late 19th century are tastefully displayed in bright, uncluttered surroundings. Enjoy exhibits that include the one-room schoolhouse, doctor’s and dentist’s offices, the war room, restored agricultural implements and machinery, an authentic windmill and hog house exhibits. 309/927-3528 Donation Jenny Lind Chapel and Museum, Andover 6th and Oak streets This historic chapel was built in 1850 with the help of a $1,500 donation from Jenny Lind, a famous Swedish singer. Residents of the town gratefully named the chapel after Lind. It is the founding church of the former Augustana Lutheran Synod and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Open May–Oct. 309/521-8501 Donation Jubilee College State Historic Site, Brimfield 11817 Jubilee College Rd. Founded as a seminary in 1840 by the first Episcopal Bishop of Illinois, Jubilee College was the first American boarding college established in Illinois. It has become the center of a yearround program of historic activities. 309/2439489 Donation Lincoln Courthouse Museum, Beardstown 103 W. 3rd St. Original building where Lincoln successfully tried the famous Almanac Trial. Museum also houses the Rudy Black gun collection, the River Museum featuring the Illinois River, a memorabilia room for the internationally known Beardstown Ladies investment club and a gift shop. 217/323-3225 Free Henry County Courthouse, Cambridge 307 W. Center St. The stately courthouse was built in 1878–80 and houses the courtrooms, county offices and an excellent set of county records. The main courtroom is especially noteworthy: the ceiling is decorated with murals depicting the principal Bishop Hill State Historic Site, Bishop Hill S.
