Arlington Heights’ Arlington Park is the place to go for exciting thoroughbred horse racing. The Arlington Million—one of America’s premier events—takes to the turf along with Breeders Cup qualifying races. Arlington also hosts festivals and concerts throughout the racing season, which typically runs from May through September. Schaumburg is home to Woodfield Mall, the largest retail center in the region, with more than 300 stores and restaurants. Close by is IKEA, the Swedish furniture and home accessories store known for its low prices and innovative designs. At the nearby Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament watch a lively jousting tournament with dueling knights while dining in a replica castle. Kids will enjoy a visit to the Legoland Discover y Center where they can take a factory tour to see how Legos are made, build their own Lego masterpieces and quest through a jungle on the Adventure Trail. The Riverfront Museum Park on the scenic Rock River is home to the Burpee Museum of Natural History, the Discovery Center Museum and the Rockford Art Museum. Anderson Japanese Gardens features koi ponds, a 16th-century-style teahouse as well as an Asian fusion eatery. The formal Japanese garden reflects the Kamakura period and the Garden of Reflection is designed as a contemporary international garden. CoCo Key Water Resort offers a tropical indoor water park at the Clock Tower Resort & Conference Center. Magic Waters Waterpark boasts a giant wave pool, along with thrilling tube and raft rides.
