The Arcola Lake Shelbyville following attractions Lerna can be found on the northern leg of I-57. During the summer, the Chicago Bears football team is in full crunch mode at the Staples Bears Training Camp in Bourbonnais. For three select weeks, visitors are welcome to watch the Monsters of the Midway practice for the upcoming season. Kankakee River State Park, located eight miles northwest of Kankakee, features a trail system that meanders for miles past limestone canyons and abundant wildlife, with hiking, biking and crosscountry ski trails on the north side of the Kankakee River, and horse and snowmobile trails on the south. Visit the Chanute Air Museum in Rantoul and learn all about Illinois aviation and the history of the Chanute Air Force Base. The 99th Pursuit Squadron exhibit tells the story of the heroic African American Tuskegee Airmen who were based at Rantoul’s Chanute Field. Also see impressive displays of aircraft that include fighter planes and bombers. Arcola is also home to the Johnny Gruelle Raggedy Ann & Andy Museum, housing the Arcola native’s doll collections and personal mementos.
