Lake of the Ozarks 2009 Vacation & Service Guide - (Page 14) Lake North It all began more than 75 years ago on the north side of the Lake, home of Bagnell Dam. Union Electric, now AmerenUE, managed the massive project from Willmore Lodge on Business Highway 54 in Lake Ozark. Built in 1930, the 6,500-square-foot, Adirondack-style lodge constructed of Western white pine logs was first assembled in Oregon, marked, taken apart, transported to the Ozarks by rail and reassembled at its present site. Today Willmore Lodge, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, houses the offices of Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and a fascinating museum about the Osage River, the incredible engineering project that became Bagnell Dam and the development of the Lake of the Ozarks. Willmore Lodge is one of the many attractions in the north area of the Lake, which includes the communities of Lake Ozark, Bagnell, Eldon, Four Seasons and Rocky Mount. Beyond Willmore Lodge on Business Highway 54, the historic Bagnell Dam Strip has delighted generations of families with its nostalgic appeal with shopping and diverse attractions. Bumper cars located on The Strip Grab your friends and family because there’s a lot to do on the north side. You can golf, mini-golf, ride go-karts, parasail and more. Several marinas rent boats of all sorts and excursion boats depart from the area’s docks for narrated cruises. Treasure hunters enjoy the antique shops in the area and diners appreciate the wide selection of restaurants, from gourmet to fast food.
