Lake of the Ozarks 2009 Vacation & Service Guide - (Page 16) Lake South Fun is waiting for you at the south end of the Lake, home of the communities of Camdenton, Linn Creek and Macks Creek— as well as Ha Ha Tonka State Park. This 3,600-plus acre park features the brooding blufftop ruins of an early 20th-century castle that was destroyed by fire. Visitors also enjoy exploring Ha Ha Tonka’s fascinating karst topography of caves, sinkholes, glades, savannas and powerful spring. The park is accessible by boat or land. Go back in time at the Camden County Museum in Linn Creek, a former school featuring an impressive array of artifacts where each classroom is its own mini-museum. For example, there’s the Pioneer School classroom with double-seat desks, little tin lunch pails, slates, a bell and a genuine dunce cap. Another room has old typewriters, office equipment plus the original cashier’s window and vault from the old Camden County Bank. The museum is officially open April through October but during the year the Camden County Historical Society sponsors book, art and crafts sales, dances, garage sales, crafts classes, the Autumn Apple Butter Festival, holiday events and the popular Museum Players & Dinner Theatre. Take the family to splash in the area’s largest outdoor waterpark complete with thrilling slides, an exciting wave pool, lazy river, kiddie area and more. Or stay dry at the Lake’s only hands-on science museums featuring a paleo lab, space exhibits and the Dino Space Adventure Fun Park. Don’t miss a cave where more than 2,000 weddings have been performed. Even if you’re not getting married, you will enjoy the cave’s hour-long tour over well-lit concrete pathways, where giant columns, delicate soda straws, massive draperies and Mystery Lake will captivate you. The cave is accessible by water at the 10.5MM on the Lake of the Ozarks’ Big Niangua Arm. Several championship golf courses, great shopping, superb wineries and other delights await visitors at the south side of the Lake.
