Lake of the Ozarks 2009 Vacation & Service Guide - (Page 24) ATTRACTIONS For fun on or off the water, the Lake of the Ozarks offers non-stop activity for ages 3 to 93. Whether you are underground exploring caves or above the water parasailing, there is plenty to do at Lake of the Ozarks. Show Caves and a Show Three popular “show caves” are real crowd-pleasers at the Lake. Bridal Cave offers guided tours past giant columns, delicate soda straws, massive draperies and Mystery Lake. Jacob’s Cave is famous for depth illusions, reflective pools, prehistoric mastadon bones and the world’s largest geode. Ozark Caverns, inside Lake of the Ozarks State Park, features hand-held lantern tours and a unique showerhead formation. For a different kind of show, the Main Street Music Hall at The Landing on Main Street presents a family-friendly opry review with great music and comedy. The annual holiday show is not to be missed! Waterparks & Arcades Families can enjoy the two area waterparks. One is an outdoor waterpark located in Lake South, with its thrilling Wave Pool, the Space Bowl, Zambezi Falls slides, along with Raging Rapids, Flumes and the Blue Nile Lazy River. The other is an indoor waterpark located in Lake East, where the main attraction is the three-story “Ozark Wilderness” tree house complete with suspension bridges, web crawls and water blasters and a gigantic wooden bucket that dumps 700 gallons of water every few minutes. There are tons of action-packed arcades throughout the entire Lake area. You can find them just about anywhere ranging from your resort, shopping centers, bowling alleys and anywhere in between. Most area arcades offer video games, electronic simulators, billiards and much more depending on which arcade you choose. You still can find 10-cent skee ball at arcades along the famed Bagnell Dam Strip, a unique mile of attractions, oddities and shops. Three fascinating historical-society museums, of Morgan, Miller and Camden Counties, offer a glimpse into the Lake area’s past. The Willmore Lodge museum tells the amazing story of Bagnell Dam. At the Orion Center visitors can learn all about the solar system and dinosaurs too! Visit The Shrine of St. Patrick Church, home of the National Shrine of Mary, Mother of the Church. This internationally recognized non-denominational shrine is dedicated to mothers everywhere regardless of race, color or creed. The original Old St. Patrick Church, Cemetery and Museum is now listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. The arts also are alive and thriving. The Lake’s Art & Ambiance Trail is 95 miles of country roads and highways that spotlight a vibrant group of artists, galleries, museums, theatres, wineries and unique eateries. Detailed maps are available throughout the Lake area. For the art of relaxation, experience the Lake’s soothing day spas and indulge in a massage, facial, wrap or other rejuvenating treatment.
