Lake of the Ozarks 2009 Vacation & Service Guide - (Page 43) EVENTS What’s Happening at the Lake There’s always something to celebrate at the Lake of the Ozarks—mountain men, hillbillies, wine, barbecue, dogwood trees, Christmas trees and much more! Here are a few highlights of the Lake’s busy festival schedule: The spring season kicks off in April with the good old-fashioned Dogwood Festival in Camdenton, now approaching 60 years. It’s followed by the Magic Dragon Street Meet on the historic Bagnell Dam Strip, the largest open-class car show in Central Missouri. Spring Harbor Hop is a great way to kick off the boating season. In early summer, the CrossOver Christian Music Festival attracts more than 10,000 music fans. Next, the Laurie Hillbilly Bar-B-Q Cook Off, sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society, showcases the “best of the best in BBQ”. The Lake is the place to take in holiday fireworks with several shows for Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day. There is nothing quite like viewing fireworks from the water to complete a memorable vacation at the Lake. Two speedy events, the Lake Rescue Shoot-Out and the Offshore Super Series National Championships, feature fast boats and a lot of fun. The Lake of the Ozarks Bikefest brings in motorcycle aficionados for a lively weekend. In the fall, visitors can experience Harbor Hop on the water and the early American frontier life during the Osage Mountain Man Festival and Rendezvous. At the Bagnell Dam Strip, Oma and Noma Days recalls the 1930’s era when the dam was finished. The festival season wraps up with the Old Tyme Apple Festival in Versailles, consistently voted the region’s “Best Festival” in Rural Missouri Readers’ Choice Awards. During the holiday season the Lake switches on with drive-through light parks, parades, crafts shows, pageants and concerts. After the New Year, the popular Eagle Days at Willmore Lodge in early January brings thousands of visitors to see wild eagles in their natural habitat. Throughout the winter, there’s still plenty going on—it’s just moved indoors, until the Lake festival season springs back into action again!
