Many travelers now use Global Positioning System (GPS) devices to help locate their destinations. (Armed with good coordinates, they can find any place on Earth.) The system is based on a network of 24 satellites that determine exact locations, specify directions and then transmit the information to GPS receivers. It works in any weather, anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day. The GPS coordinates that appear in the Planner are generated by the address information furnished by each attraction. Because many addresses are rural and many use a wide range of terms, the coordinates won’t always get travelers to the front door of their destinations. Missouri Tourism hopes they get travelers close enough that actual arrival becomes easy. GPS coordinates for attractions and accommodations statewide also appear on the Missouri Tourism Web site, www.VisitMO.com.
