Historic Inns of Palm Springs - (Page 13) ome to “A Place in the Sun,” where you will feel like a pampered movie star from days past. This charming, midcentury garden hotel was built in 1951 as a retreat for the production crew of the film classic A Place in the Sun, starring Elizabeth Taylor, Montgomery Clift, and Shelley Winters, and has been lovingly restored by the current owners. Sixteen single-story bungalows form an enclave around the sparkling saltwater pool and spa. This new touch is “all natural, and so gentle on your skin,” owners Ron and Norma Van Meeteren proclaim. Set amid lush lawns and fragrant gardens, this property sits on more than an acre of grounds. Guests come together for lavish continental breakfasts served poolside in the gazebo on season weekends. It’s also the perfect gathering spot for community barbecues and our very unique Christmas brunch. Choose from a range of well-appointed and comfortable rooms. Our smallest is a standard studio with a fully equipped kitchenette and small private patio. One- and two-bedroom bungalows all have high wood beam ceilings, fully equipped kitchens, and private walled patio. The walled garden patios of most bungalows have grass as well, perfect for people traveling with pets. The two-bedroom bungalow is 1,300 square feet and has a fireplace and private Jacuzzi. Great location, too, just south of downtown Palm Springs. These are just a few praises sung by our guests on tripadvisor.com: “A warm, charming, small hotel with cottages that surround a peaceful and perfectly groomed garden…” — Dr. Loo, California “Just what we were looking for. I recommend this place for people with allergies. I haven’t been swimming in years because of my chlorine allergies, so swimming in the beautiful salt pool was a real treat…” — Spagie, Colorado “Relaxing and Comfortable. Hospitality plus! Friendly, helpful hosts. Five stars for cleanliness.” — California CatMom, Santa Monica, California S. PALM CANYON DRIVE Random Road C E. San Lorenzo Road E.
