Historic Inns of Palm Springs - (Page 21) he romantic, completely refurbished Casa Cody — Palm Springs’ oldest operating inn — is perfectly located between majestic Mount San Jacinto and the downtown village only two blocks away. Founded in the 1920s by Hollywood pioneer Harriet Cody, cousin of the legendary Buffalo Bill, the bed-andbreakfast features 27 single-story accommodations in five early-California adobe hacienda-styled buildings, each surrounded by bougainvillea and citrus-filled courtyards. All rooms have private entrances leading to comfortable studios and one- and two-bedroom suites with kitchens. The décor is inspired by Santa Fe and other desert cultures. They also include saltillo tile floors, hand-woven Dhurri rugs, handmade Mexican furniture, Equipage chairs, antique Indian armoires, and wall hangings from Morocco and Turkey. Many have private patios and wood-burning fireplaces, as well. For maximum privacy, Casa Cody has a one-bedroom cottage and a newly restored 1910 two-bedroom adobe villa, once the retreat of Metropolitan Opera star Lawrence Tibbett, who often entertained Charlie Chaplin here. During the early 1940s, the hotel was home to officers of Gen. George Patton, who was training troops for the Africa campaign. Guests enjoy a casual continental breakfast every morning at one of the two pools. Casa Cody also has a secluded, tree-shaded whirlpool spa. W. Arenas Road S.
