Within the museum, the hands-on World Aquarium houses inhabitants of aquatic ecosystems from around the globe. At the Saint Louis Science Center, travel back in time to the days of the dinosaurs via the Ecology and the Environment Past exhibit, World Aquarium Wild Canid Survival and Research Center Howl with wolves at the Wild Canid Survival and Research Center, the first captive breeding facility in the world for endangered wolves. The World Bird Sanctuary is dedicated to preserving the earth’s biological diversity and securing the future of birds of prey in their natural environments. Naturalists at both attractions offer programs on a variety of environmental topics. Seasonal birding events include Eagle Days in January and the Confluence Wings of Spring Birding Festival in April. Throughout the year, watch for bald eagles, trumpeter swans, white pelicans and other species at the Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary along the Mississippi River. This natural area has been officially designated by the National Audubon Society as an Important Bird Area. The history of the mighty Mississippi and human interaction with its ecosystem are themes of the National Great Rivers Museum in nearby Alton, Illinois. Recycling is truly an art form at City Museum where items that would have McDonnell Planetarium and check out the habitat scientists have created that allows astronauts to live and work in outer space at the Boeing Space Station in the McDonnell Planetarium.
