OUTDOOR ADVENTURE & NATURE SAGUARO NATIONAL PARK WEST 733-5158, 10 miles west of Tucson. $10/vehicle. There are two routes, approximately one hour each, through this scenic desert preserve. Experienced riders take Speedway Boulevard west of I-10 and continue west over Gates Pass. The traffic, narrow roadway, and steep climb make this route a challenge. Continue west to Kinney Road and right to the world-renowned ArizonaSonora Desert Museum. An alternate, intermediate route begins at Picture Rocks Road on West Ina Road and continues south and west to the museum. 6^ B-12 A.T. SOUTHERN ARIZONA Arivaca Lake Off AZ Hwy. 289, near Arivaca, AZ, southwest of Tubac (Nogales Ranger District, 520-281-2296) Bog Springs Campground Between I-19 and AZ Hwy. 83, in Madera Canyon (Nogales Ranger District, 520-281-2296) Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge Off I-19 at exit 48, near Arivaca, AZ (U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, 520-823-4251) Chiricahua National Monument Off AZ Hwy. 186 or AZ Hwy. 181 in Chiricahua Mountains, near Willcox, AZ (National Park Service, 520-824-3560) Cochise Stronghold Off I-10 in Dragoon Mountains, near Dragoon, AZ (U.S. Forest Service, 520-364-3468) Take St. Mary’s Road west for an intermediate 2-hour loop in the Tucson Mountains. St. Mary’s Road turns into Anklam Road as it curves and approaches the mountain. Turn south into Starr Pass Resort, left at the stop sign, and right on the next road to the trailhead. The trail takes you over Starr Pass, with beautiful views of the valley. 8) H-19 CHIVA FALLS 10 miles east of Tucson, 40 minutes from downtown. This is a 2- to 4-hour technical ride for intermediate to expert bikers. Take Tanque Verde Road east, which eventually turns into Redington Road. The trailhead is about 5 miles up Redington to the south. 1& SO.
